After Belvidere voters approved a referendum in November 1997, we began work on Additions and Remodeling to Belvidere High School to design these new spaces:

• Auditorium and Art/Music component spaces
• Learning Resource Center with dual Computer Labs
• Science Labs and Greenhouse

The project was completed in 3 phases in order to coordinate construction during the school year and the summer months to meet our completion deadline.

Two additions totaling 74,835 s.f. increased the school’s area by approximately 30%. The General Office complex, classrooms, and Media Center comprise a two-story addition which also features a new main entrance. The new Media Center, designed to be used in conjunction with its 2 adjacent Computer Labs, features an on-line catalogue system and student-use computers with internet access. The other addition is a 42,500 s.f. Performing Arts Center. Its three components include an art wing, a music wing, and an 850-seat auditorium. The stage complex features an orchestra pit, trap rooms, and bi-level side stages.

Remodeled areas total 70,720 square feet, much of which will result in new Science Labs, Cafeteria, Kitchen, Study Hall and Computer Labs. Other minor remodeling includes repainting and ceiling tile replacement. The school will contain an overall 271,750 square feet.

Reorganization of the Science department required new lab equipment and furnishings for 9 rooms. Belvidere’s existing library, a sunken area not designed for handicapped accessibility, became 9 classrooms in part of the reorganized Math and Special Education areas. Remodeling ranged from minimal work such as repainting to major infill construction and revamped a total 70,700 s.f.
