| A 5,000-s.f. addition and 8,000 s.f. of remodeling transformed this 3rd floor wing from a temporary Mother-Baby Unit to a state-of-the-art floor that can provide the comfort and care in a family-oriented room, (Dr. Richard E. Nora, Staff Oncologist).
The 17 new Patient Rooms average 270 s.f., twice the size of a typical existing room. Two of the new rooms are lead-encased to prevent radiation leakage from implant treatments; another doubles as an Overnight Family Room. Oak headwall units house medical hook-ups that, with the addition of some wheel-in equipment, allow a room to be used for intensive care. When not in use, sliding doors conceal the hook-ups and present a home-like atmosphere. Other design features include: the hospitals largest nursing station, a patient recreation/exercise room, a Visitor TV/Waiting Room, and an infection deterring air filtration/ventilation system. |
