Construction began at Eastland Junior High as a result of a 10-Year Life Safety study. Changes include an addition onto the facility and restructuring grade level attendance. To make room for the addition, the existing 4-6 grade school that was build in 1916 was demolished.

The new 4-8 school comes with a 30,000 square foot addition and 9,000 square feet of remodeling; the entire building contains 66,500 square feet within 2 stories; accessibility is satisfied with a new elevator.

Three classrooms for each grade 4–7 add up to a bulk of the new space. The rest of the addition includes a Media Center, a Cafeteria and a full-service Kitchen, Staff Workroom, Receiving and Mechanical rooms. The remaining design criteria are met as the existing Library is redefined into new Industrial Arts and Special Education Rooms and the old Kitchen becomes a new Nurse’s Station.
